As per the statistical information of European Union (EU), retail sales in Euro zone rose 0.7% in August and were up 2.4% from last year.
As per the statistical information of European Union (EU), retail sales in Euro zone rose 0.7% in August and were up 2.4% from last year.
The figures are an improvement on the July figures. On Wednesday Eurostat revised its July retail sales from earlier estimated monthly increase of 0.6% to 0.4% and also from an estimated yearly increase of 2.5% to 1.9%.
In August, as Compared July 2006, food products, drinks & tobacco sales cut down by 0.4% in twelve countries using euro whereas the non-food item rose by 1.6%. Annual retail sales of food products, drinks & tobacco increased 0.7% and the non-food item raise by 3.8%.
Retail sales for whole European Union nation rise by 0.6% above a month & 3.3 percent above a year. Among the European Union Member States, Latvia recorded maximum yearly growth rate of 20.6 percent. Slovenia and Belgium recorded with an annual decline of 2.7% and 1.6%, respectively.
As per RNCOS market research report "UK Food Retailing Market Forecast (2005-2010)," between 2000 and 2004, UK groceries retail market posted a moderate sequential growth that showed the mature nature of the market and in 2005 UK grocery sales reached 120 Billion GBP. Convenience Stores accounted for around 20% of market share or 24 Billion GBP. Traditional retailing, which included small retailers, only had 7% share of the pie.
According to RNCOS analyst, the share of Non-food grocery reached to 15%, which accounted for 18 Billion GBP of total retail sale and the share of Non-groceries & tobacco remained equal at 10%.
